Weekly wrap up and weekday blues...

The one thing that makes me really happy is to see young kids doing healthy activities rather than clogging up malls and sitting being electronic screens of some shape or form. My daughter Victoria has taken to triathalons/duathalons. The kids series that have been introduced are a brilliant way to get kids into the sport - and I commend all the sponsors who support these events! She has 4 or five of them under her belt and seems to be loving them more and more!

... here are a few of my proud moments!

Well I wrapped up a fairly successful week - right up until Sunday! I was due to have an easy family ride this morning out at the farm - just before we were due to leave I go a call from my mate to say that his bike rack had fallen off the back of his car! In then end three of the four bikes could not be ridden! It looks like a very expensive trip to the bike shop. Interesting to note though - it looks like it was the bike rack or Toyota toe-hitch that malfunctioned rather than human error! Anyway by the time we had sorted it all out it was after midday - and at 30+ degrees in JHB it would not have been pretty with the family.

Anyway out of the planned 18 hours - I managed to squeeze in 18 odd hours which I am more than happy with.
At just over 280 kms - I would love to introduce more hills to my training - but it is really
difficult to do in JHB during the week. My 3hr weekday ride has
750m of ascent - and that seems to be the best I can find around my area. Anyway - this weeked we plan one of out long outrides So hopefully I will be able to clock up some bigger hills.

The body appears to be holding out well - I have no major aches and pains, which is good! I have always been really bad at stretching. In the fact that I never do it. Anyway, I have introduced a 20 minute stretching session at the end of every ride - when possible. It really does make a massive difference. My flexibility is certainly improving - and the morning after I am seldom stiff. So I recommend it if you are one of those who don't!

Well a quiter week planned this week according to the schedule which will be nice. The long ride (7-hours) that we plan to do on the weekend will take up a big chunk of our time. So going to try and take in some quality rest. Lots of water and healthy eating.
