Tour Divide - Riding for Rhino's

Growing up in Zimbabwe as a child I was fortunate enough to have access to some of the most pristine wildlife habitat in the world.  My family and I  would regularly spend weekends and holidays enjoying some of the most breathtaking ecosystems in Africa.   As a young adult I worked on canoe safari’s in the Zambezi valley and my love for the African bush became an obsession.   I have a deep seated respect for the many animals that roam the plains of Africa and it pains me to witness the devastation that man has caused, specifically to the majestic and proud Rhino’s of Africa.

I have decided to merge my desires to help prevent these animals from the extinction that is so close by and my participation in the Tour Divide to try and raise some funds.

To participate in an event like the Tour Divide is to a large extent a selfish undertaking. Not only does it demand countless hours of training and preparation prior to the event, but will take me away from family, friends and work for a month in June/July 2013.   I wanted to ensure that whilst fulfilling a personal goal I did some good for a cause which my family and I believe in so strongly.

I will therefore, be attempting this race to raise funds which will be used to support the lifesaving work in the fight against Rhino poaching. The money raised will be given to The International Rhino Foundation to be used in the protection of the last remaining rhino numbers in the Lowveld area of Zimbabwe.   http://www.rhinos.org/

I encourage all of you to dig deep and donate/sponsor me for what will be an epic challenge, knowing that all funds raised will be going towards an exceptionally deserving and good cause.
