Reflecting back on the last couple of years and my training for the Tour Divide, I can only but be thankful. Thankful for a supportive family who back me in my crazy endeavors. Few people understand what would motivate an individual to spend countless hours, on consecutive days, grinding it out on a mountain bike, yet my family has been incredibly involved and supportive - truly grateful for that, as I know this race is a selfish undertaking and the training commitment has been huge. I also need to be thankful for my health. At age 40, I have the strength and fitness that will hopefully allow me to finish this race. I am fortunate that my passions keep me in good health in a society that is plagued with increasing sedentary lifestyle.
And most importantly I am incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported me either financially or through kind towards the cause I am riding for. This collective force will be a motivating drive on the tougher sections of the race. Knowing that hundreds of people are out there rooting for me and following my progress will be reassuring to know.
This time next week I will be rolling up to the start line in Banff, which in itself will be an achievement. With months of gear prep and travel coordination, it will be good to push off and begin this adventure.
I am also very grateful to the folks at The Fairmont Banff Springs for providing me with the ultimate base camp to begin my adventure. This hotel should be on everyone's bucket list as its truly the best possible location for a magical hotel experience.
Before I leave next week I will share the links that will include my live tracking link and the site that I will call into from time to time.
Once again thanks to everyone!
