The rains have arrived in Joburg...

Well I suppose it was inevitable but the stormy tropical afternoon storms have begun in Joburg. Although the countryside needs the rain very badly - it does put a bit of a dampner (pun intended ;-) on the training plans. Luckily I got in an extra hour in the morning, as by the afternoon the lightning was all around (not ideal cycling weather) and the solidsheets of rain starting falling just as I was intending to leave for my afternoon ride.

The one benefit of the rain in the afternoon/evening is that it makes the next morning amazingly fresh! Out on bike a 5am this morning - the rising sun was an amazing colour - I suppose this is one of the perks of doing crazy hours on the bike! Managed to do a quick 2,5 hrs on the bike this morning. Hopefully the rain holds out for the afternoon... might try and squeeze in another hour this evening.

One of the negatives on riding in Joburg is that certain individuals have taken it upon themselves to take posession of individuals bikes without their permission - bike-jacking - a sad reality of living in South Africa. The incidents have got really bad recently - especially along the Spruit (river). Therefore my evening ride have taken a detour around the suburbs rather than along the Spruit  - hopefully the police respond to the pressure of the cycling communit and do something about.
