Weekly round up...

I started off the week well and managed to get in 10 hours by Wednesday - however I was meant to get in another 2 hours today (Friday) but I just could not bring myself to get up. I think this is when training with a partner is so important - mine was not riding today otherwise I would have certainly made it up! The other thing that I am finding that if I have a few drinks in the evening it really takes its toll the next morning. And I really mean a few drinks. So to this end I am going to stop from after Christmas (very difficult to do before with my family Christmas!)

This weekend I have got some QT with the family which I am really looking forward to - I might try and squeeze in a run one morning - I will take my daughter in her jogger! It is as close as I will get to simulating the pushing of a bike up hills - which I am sure will be a familiar pastime of the Cape Epic.

Till next week - cheers

  1. Heya also riding the epic in March and looking forward to it. Question for you: on your rides what sort of terrain are you covering (rocky trails/smooth roads/flat/hilly) and what sort of average speeds are you doing?

just be interested to compare as I am a newbie to MTB racing

  2. Hi Brent

At this stage I we are mostly doing LSD (long slow distances) - our training is mostly all under 70% - where possible! ;-)

The last couple of weeks we are including some interval training as we are off to Sabie in December.

Then we are back onto our next 12 week programme just after Christmas... And by the time we get to Sani we should be feeling strong!

I am going to try and find some more technical rides in the new year.

Just get a good base as I think we are all in for some long days!
