'Can miles truly separate us from friends'

One thing that have learnt from cycling, is that I have made some of my best friends in life that one could ever wish to make. The experiences that we have shared are some of my toughest but the rewards have been endless. Anyone who does not cycle cannot fully understand why cyclists endure the hours of training simply to test or push yourself harder in your next event in inhospitable conditions. But not only is it about achieving personal goals and following a healthy lifestyle it is also about spending time with like-minded individuals doing what you love doing. For me, the event begins trying moment we pack our kit into the car and hit the road.

Today I missed a quality ride with my mates from South Africa, 5,5hrs ride up the Sani Pass to Lesotho. 5,5hrs of toil and suffering but also quailty laughs and memories. For the first time in a long time I felt very far away from them and really missing their companship.

The weather has kept me housebound today. A horrible mix of snow and rain meant that riding was out of the question, which has not helped my frame of mind. Summer cannot come soon enough. Don't get me wrong, I have loved the adventure that Canadian winter has given us, but I do long for the outdoors. So instead I have holed up in a pub instead to update my blog!

Tomorrow the weather looks colder which hopefully means that it wont snow or rain and I can squeeze in a ride. I am possibly the only person wishing for a colder day right now in Canada!!  Sometimes the best laid plans are out of your control....
