“Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans”

With the weekend just around the corner an air of anticipation fills me waiting to see if the weather holds out for the next few days. Currently right now it looks like it could be damp, with rain forecast on both Saturday and Sunday. The 'good' thing about rain in Canada, at this time of the year, means that it is not going to be too cold which means regardless - I will be getting out on my bike.  But unless you have a firm plan going into the weekend it is easy to fly through the weekend without getting any quality time on the bike.

Dreaming of Summer single-track
I plan to do at least two rides over the weekend. My longer 3hr ride on Saturday morning and then a shorter out-ride on Sunday. Being new to my area all of my rides are done with an aim to explore the area. One thing about where I live in Canada is there is lots to explore! Most of the forests seem to have trail markings which for me is a good thing as I will get less lost! Unlike riding in South Africa, where the horizon gives you visual clues to your location due to the expansive vistas -  in Canada deep in the forests it is easy to become disorientated.

Right now though at this time of year I have to stick to the larger forest roads rather than the trails as the snow and ice on the single track would just make it a little to treacherous. But at this stage of my training and lack of fitness - forest roads are perfect for some base training hours. But I cannot wait for the long summer evenings and the ability to explore all the mile of single-track that Canada has to offer!
