1-Month till I depart...

It is crazy to sit here and think that in exactly 30 days time, I will be on my way to the start of the most exciting and challenging experience of my lifetime. The enormity of this race in reality has yet to sink in completely. I know that physically you could always do more,  but my work schedule has made it difficult. However, I am confident that I have got my fitness levels to a point that I can push my bike up to the 'start line' in Banff and give it my best shot. Any conditioning lacking will be made up after the first week on the bike!

Lack of hills in Ontario worries me what I may be up against...
So how do I feel? Somewhere in between the extremes of emotion - excitement and nervousness is an underlying sense of panic of everything that I still need to get sorted out before I go. Not only are there Tour Divide related activities that I still need to sort out - like bike setup and last minute gear etc. But also a considerable amount of work commitments that need to be closed off before I leave. Not to mention everything on the home front that needs to be in order whilst I am away. Time to build a list and start checking this off before I go!

The next month for me really involves 2 more weekend of training rides (and as much weekday riding as possible) before I will go into a serious taper before the event. I am really going to try and get as much recovery time for my body prior to the start of the race to arrive fresh. My weekday training for the next 2 weeks will be 4-hours a day (Tuesday - Friday) with 2 big rides over the weekend. I would like to get in 400kms over the weekend for the next 2 weekends. Hopefully the weather going forward plays along better than it did today - between gale force winds and every form of precipitation from rain, freezing pellets to snow (yes, middle of May snow!) I eventually threw in the towel and put the return ride down to experience.
