The Home Straight

With only one more weekend of training left on my schedule. It is getting really close. Managed to get in  two decent rides in over the long weekend whilst I also spent some quality time with my family and friends. So with one more weekend to go, I hope to get it in one last long training ride and then simply keep the legs turning leading up to the start. I also plan to use the last 2 weekends before I go to get everything in order at home for the month that I am going to be away.

Everyone keeps asking me if I think I am ready, but like any big stage race, the truth is that I won't really know until I get 3-4 days into the race. I am confident that I have got my fitness to a level where my endurance toning will cope. However, the coupled effects of altitude and a small issue of some really big mountains, might change that statement! But, it is what it is. I do know that the duration of this event also means that whatever fitness I don't arrive at the start with, will be gained over the first week of riding. From a gear preparedness - I still need to get my front roll for my bike and convert my tire setup to tubeless and get a few other odds and ends. But other than that I hope to have everything else sorted. I am doing the event on a light setup - so am going to have to be very careful with my gear selection and plan to spend the next few weeks planning and placing everything on the bike. As far a communication goes - I still have to activate my Spot satellite tracker which I plan to do so this weekend and sign up to the Tour Divide 2013 leader tracking.

About 6-months ago this race seemed miles away with loads of time, but right now I feel like I am standing at the end of a tunnel with a train heading straight towards me at full speed! (This is probably because I am sitting writing this on my phone, on a train!)
